Volunteer With A Purpose

Making a Tangible Difference Through Passionate and Committed Service

Volunteers bring essential services to every Community.  Each year, hundreds of people offer their time, talents, resources, expertise and goodness of their hearts to outreach projects, to help make a difference in the lives of the hurting and the vulnerable.

Our volunteering opportunities are on going all year around, and constantly keep changing. There is a place for everyone with time to give.

Are you passionate about supporting our children and the young people? This project works to help those vulnerable young people and needy children.  Individuals who are dedicated to providing and contributing to safe spaces that promote learning and development for underserved children and teens are welcome.

Through this program, we invite volunteers to help in teaching at our schools in the areas of English, mathematics, science, humanities, music and crafts among others.

Our organisation is community based and cantered established with the aim of promoting the well-being of people living in hard-to-reach areas and therefore we are basically an institution serving the community. For us to ably change communities positively, we need to use appropriate strategies that can promote community participation and involvement for social change.

As a community and Youth Engagement associate, you will help communities to bring about social change and improve the quality of life in their local areas by working with them to identify their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities. Plan with them on what they want to achieve and implement appropriate action. Develop activities and services to generate aspiration and confidence with full involvement and participation of community members.

You will also act as the link between communities and a range of other local authorities and partners such as the police, social workers and teachers, local and international organisations.

While working with the local team you will actively engage communities in making sense of the issues which affect their lives, setting goals for improvement and responding to problems and needs through empowerment and active participation.

Chronic underdevelopment in Uganda is a problem not easily solved. Remote rural living, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, a subsistence economy, loss of hope, and lack of services helps to keep many families depend upon hand-outs, malnourished, and uneducated. Currently, there are few real ways to generate funds at the village level to support anything other than subsistence living. Therefore, The Real Uganda has developed relationships with local communities to help provide start-up funds, knowledge, and motivation all necessary to solve their respective problems in a sustainable way.

Do you like working outdoors and getting your hands dirty? Interested in seeing the impact of climate change in the tropics? Come volunteer at a local farm and help a community achieve food security and environmental sustainability.

Volunteers work along side our local farmers digging and maintaining demonstration gardens to promote better nutrition, efficient use of land, natural pest control, soil conservation, and income generation. Depending on the season, volunteers prepare soil, plant, weed, chase pests, or harvest crops. Volunteers are given basic training and appropriate tools upon arrival, but bring gloves, a hat, and rubber boots if you wish. This project requires working in the sun.

Volunteers are given a private room and meals in the family home of the host organization’s director. Electricity is intermittent and there is no running water. The farm is walking distance from home.

The farm produces food to feed the students of its small primary school. Volunteers are invited to teach about environmental conservation or farming practices there. Volunteers may also just want to relax and have some fun with the kids. Sport, arts and crafts, and cultural exchange activities are highly encouraged.

Activities

Volunteers in the Agriculture & Conservation Assistant program join in on the work of their host Communities.

We work with communities to address child Marriages and Teenage Pregnancies in Uganda and we are using different methods and forums to educate communities and stakeholders about the dangers of child marriage and teenage pregnancies and encouraging good practices to keep girls in school.

Films can give viewers a different view of society than they’re used to, broadening their horizons and making them think about problems in new ways. They can offer a different perspective on the lives of people in other societies, providing insight into the lives and cultures of other people. Movies have a profound influence on our culture and society, serving as a reflection of our values and beliefs, a catalyst for change, a source of inspiration, and a form of entertainment.

The program seeks to improve mindset and promote good practices for community Development through the use of Film, Videos and Documentaries which will be produced in Local Languages and Transcribed with subtitles in English.

The volunteers will work with the local team in Mukono, Namayingo or in Mbale and will be expected to share experiences and support with content creation and production.

Children are every community’s hope for a better future. Caring for at-risk infants and children who are abandoned or otherwise, resource limitations can have a lasting impact on a child’s well-being and is one of our most rewarding placements available for volunteers. Prepare kids for a bright future by playing games, serving meals, and giving much-needed one-on-one attention and love. The care placement is ideal for volunteers interested in working with children, caring for their needs and welfare.

During school terms, the majority of children at our Centre attend school during the day and with that in mind, we combine teaching and care wherein volunteers can work at the school in the morning, then offer care and needed support, mentor or play games with the children at the Centre in the afternoon. This will make a greater impact on each child’s life by teaching them at school and giving them your individual attention, love and care in and outside of the classroom. You should come prepared with ideas for activities suitable for children of different ages – think of your favourite playground games, nursery rhymes, stories, arts and crafts sessions!

The volunteer care work in Uganda is an ideal way to get involved and help improve the welfare of vulnerable children. You can contribute toward this important development work during a gap year or career break, or as a meaningful way to spend your vacation. Whether you have a background in childcare, social work or simply enjoy caring for children, a smile or a hug can make a real impact in the life to a child with an aching heart. Working with children can be fun and a rewarding experience that anyone interested in children’s issues can join. The only quality required of a volunteer is to have compassion, patience and desire to work with children.
